Haridwar is situated on the right side of the bank of the holy Ganga, and is the point where the river spreads over the northern plains. Associated with both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, Haridwar is among the seven sacred cities of theIndia. It is also one of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela, held in its magnitude every twelve years. Essentially a religious centre which holds promise of the salvation for devotees, Haridwar is also a centre of herbal medicine, and traditional studies at Gurukul Kangri. There are many places of scenic beauty on the outskirts of the town.

It is said that when the Gods left their footprints on the land of Haridwar, metaphorically they also left an indelible mark on the spiritual ethos of every Hindu - more so, the devout, who later follows their holy paths all across this blessed land. Haridwar stands as the gateway to the ancient scriptures and epics, Haridwar has always remained as a major Shaktipeeth for the devotees. Of such significance is Haridwar in the though of India's traditional Hindus that it has earned its sobriquet of honor, 'the gateway to the Gods'.

Har ki Pauri


Har ki Pauri, Haridwar

This place is also known as Brahmakund. It is sacred place and main bathing ghat. Here every six years Kumb and every twelve years a full Kumbh's festival takes place, when the faithful take a dip in the sacred Kund as penance for their sins and thus achieve supreme salvation. The performance of Aarti (adoration of a deity) here early morning and evening every day is worth watching.

This place is three kms away from the tourism office, on NH to Najibabad. It is situated at considerable height of main Ganga in the Neel Mountain. To reach thre, Chandighat Bridge on Ganga has to be crossed after which 3 kms have to be covered on foot. The temple can also be reached through ropeway located at Najibabad road 3 kms from Haridwar.

Daksh Mahadev and Sati Kund


Daksh Mahadev and Sati Kund

This temple is situated in Kankhal, about3.5 kms, away from the Tourism Office. According to mythological tales, Daksh Prajapati, the father of Sati Parvati, had performed here ritual of sacrifice and oblation, and had not invited Shiva to join the ritual. Consequently, sati became very angry and she could not bear this insult and reduced herself into ashes in the agnikund itself.

This place, situated about seven kilometers away from the tourism office, has a worth viewing Temple. This temple is seven storeyed. Here, statues have been placed of great men of Bharatvarsh, of satis, key figures of the freedom struggle beside the idols of Shankar and Parvati and other gods and goddesses.

This place is situated about 6.5 kms away from the tourism office. This temple is imitation of Ma Vaishno Devi's main temple situated in Jammu, and presents a unique mix of natural phenomenon and art.

This place is about 2 kms away from the tourism office. It is a very famous temple (Sidhpeeth). Its can be reached either by the rope-way or on foot.

Avdhoot Mandal Ashram

This place is famous for Hanuman Mandir. Besides many idols of gods here, are worth watching.
